Online dating is very popular these days, but rare people know about the online dating scams. This is really serious, if you get too deeply involved, a dating scam can certainly hurt not only your heart, but also your finances. Before you even think of online dating, you must know about dating scams.
Firstly, make sure you know how to protect yourself from the fraud when using the dating websites. Internet personals, online introduction agencies and matchmaking sites allow anyone to join for free and these usually do not screen their members. It means you never know who is behind the photo, a really beautiful lady or a con artist, who downloaded a photo of an unknown model from the internet.
Online dating scams are of four types: prostitute scam, phone scam, travel scam, and Nigerian postal scam.
Prostitute scam – Prostitutes place profiles on dating sites to solicit business. These profiles are usually recognized by sleazy user name and steamy self-descriptions. You will easily know how what they really want.
Phone scam- Some person will ask you to make them a call, and when you do, you get a bill in the mail for hundreds of dollars.
Travel scam- The person, residing overseas, asks you to help them with travel expenses, so to visit you.
Nigerian postal scam – The person pretending as a relative of a diseased government official will asks for the help in a financial transaction.
When you see a profile, check out things like a sleazy user name. Scammers will say something vague that can fit anyone. Look at the photos, glamorous professional photos in combination with vague profile always mean trouble. A woman who generally talks about loving sex and experimenting in bed is most likely not for real. On the other hand, a man who talks about being a millionaire is not for real either.
